Allison Cal: The Empress of FOH

Allison is a hospitality professional who has been in the industry for 11 years. Born and raised in Detroit, she fell into the industry during her time at Wayne State University by working in a sports bar/nightclub as a shot girl and server. Guided by incredible mentors, she quickly moved on to bartending. The creative aspect of making cocktails appealed to her and she soon had a love for the hospitality industry. She learned the value of making solid classic cocktails while bartending at The Keep. Years later, she has worked almost every front-of-house position including being the maitre d of upscale cocktail lounges such as The Sugar House, and Bad Luck Bar. While keeping up her bar knowledge and contributing to cocktail menus at The Sugar House, the maitre d position provided a different perspective of service. She acquired skills in curating the atmosphere of her space, ensuring a smooth flow of service, and event planning while maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for both guests and staff. Recently, Allison has been enjoying doing bar pop-ups and event work around Detroit. She finds meaningfulness in the details and methods behind the madness. In her spare time, Allison can be found traveling, working on her photography, and sipping tequila while expanding her knowledge of all things industry. Allison is honored to be a guest of Black On Both Sides and to share her expertise with every guest she encounters.
